What are the series of corrugated plates in front of the steam line that exits the steam drum called?
- Deminster
- Cyclone Separators
- Hydrocyclone
- Chevron Separators
The Answer… Chevron Seperators
The vane configuration of Chevron separators remove water by forcing the steam to make directional changes. Residual water droplets impinge on the vanes and drain back into the drum. They are designed to prevent carryover of boiler water solids to the superheater and turbine. Damage to separators, poor drum level control, improper water treatment programs, or sever boiler water contamination will allow impurities to enter the steam with potentially dire consequences.
